Baby feeding essentials, from baby bibs and baby cutlery sets to formula makers and breast pumps, are everywhere you look. With so many options to choose from, it can be difficult to know what to get and whether or not the model you are buying is the best choice for your baby. Fear not. We have some advice to share with you below.

Baby Feeding for the First 6 Months

According to UNICEF and the World Health Organization, babies should only start solids after the age of 6 months. Up until that time, their diet should consist of only breastmilk and/or baby formula. With this in mind, there are a few baby feeding essentials that you’ll want to stock up on. Baby bottles are obviously top of the list and can be used for feeding baby both formula and expressed breastmilk.

Bottle warmers are also handy if your little one is averse to drinking cooler milk (most are!). They warm the milk up evenly without creating hot spots (which is why you should never heat a bottle up in the microwave).

Microwave bottle sterilizers help to sterilize baby’s bottles faster than if you were to sterilize in boiling water on the stove.

If you are breastfeeding, manual and electric breast pumps are excellent for expressing milk quickly, effectively and painlessly. If you’re not sure which is the best breast pump to buy, be sure to read the breast pump reviews on our website. You’ll also want to invest in some nursing pads to deal discretely with any leakage that may occur in between feedings.

Baby Feeding 6+ Months

This is when the real fun begins! While breastmilk and/or formula should be the most important part of your baby’s diet until 12 months of age, you can start introducing your little one to solids from 6 months old. Unless you are taking a Baby Led Weaning (BLW) approach to the process, you’ll probably want to start baby on purees. In this instance, baby food processors will make your life endlessly easier.

Other than that, feeding essentials for this age include baby bibs, baby cutlery sets, baby plates and bowls and baby spoons. If you’re particularly concerned about mess, bibs with sleeves can work miracles!
