Nuna Pipa Lite vs Pipa Lite LX: a Little Canadian Comparison

When searching for an infant car seat, one of the questions our Little Canadian experts get asked most is “What is the lightest car seat?”. If you find yourself asking the same question, look no further! In this Little Canadian Reviews blog we will be discussing the two lightest car seats on the market- Nuna Pipa Lite and the Nuna Pipa Lite LX.

Seat similarities

So what makes the Nuna Pipa Lite and Lite LX so light compared to other car seats? Well for starters, did you know that these seats are equipped with Aeroflex foam that hasn’t been seen in other seats across the market? Aeroflex Foam is very lightweight and helps to absorb and diffuse energy from a collision, to help protect your child. These seats are also equipped with aerospace aluminum and lightweight fabrics. Both the Pipa Lite and Lite Lx are designed with a steel reinforced True Lock installation system and installation colour indicators, making installing a breeze!

The Nuna Pipa Lite and Lite LX both come equipped with fire resistant fabrics, without the added fire retardant chemicals. Curious about seat comfort? These car seats are designed with a memory foam, removable headrest designed for comfort and to grow with your baby!

Seat drawbacks

I know what you’re thinking- A light weight car seat, bonus safety features, a comfortable seat… What are the drawbacks?

Well, because of it’s lightweight materials, the maximum weight the Lite and Lite LX can hold is 22lbs. Meaning you aren’t getting as much use out of this seat as you would another car seat (most car seat weight capacities are around 35lbs).

Additionally, the seat belt installation option was removed for these seats. You cannot install the Nuna Pipa Lite or Lite LX without the car seat base, meaning if you like to travel or frequently use taxis or Uber, this might make life a little more difficult.

Seat differences

The major differences between the Nuna Pipa Lite and Pipa Lite LX would be the material each seat is equipped with.  While they are both built with the same fire resistant fabrics, did you know the Lite LX is also designed with environmentally friendly merino wool and TENCEL lyocell fabrics? This fabric blend is known for being long lasting and extremely soft and gentle- which is perfect for your brand new baby! Not to mention- the Nuna Pipa Lite LX comes with the famous Nuna Dream Drape, where as the Pipa LITE does not. The Dream Drape is perfect for covering the baby while in the seat, without an added blanket or additional purchase of a car seat cover.
